Description

Week 024 and believe it or not...another cross. I did not think that I would do another one this year but this one spoke to me.

Firstly the credit in which this photo belongs to the lovely :iconladyxboleyn: and you can see the original here I love her stock and her wonderful photography and it was while I was going through her gallery that I came across this cross. I was intrigued for two reasons. The first being that I have never before seen a round cross like this one. The second reason was when I read the description of the engraving. There were full details on General Palmer on place of birth, full names, rank in the military but for his wife she was not given the courtesy of her place of birth, nor the date of birth NOT EVEN her maiden name. It is a sad reflection of the times that a woman's existence had lesser value than that of the husband. She even died 7 years before her husband and his name was put first on the headstone. A google search later and without further ado...I present to you....

Louie Madeleine (Gouldsmith) Palmer
Born in Trowbridge, Wiltshire, England in 1862, died 21 May 1925 (63 years)
A daughter named Madeleine Llewellen Palmer

88 years after she died at least one person cares. The internet creates strange friends sometimes.

9x12 Fine textured sketchbook, graphite for line work, 4 different grey prisma coloured pencils and one metallic silver prisma coloured pencil. I had to dig out my high school geometry set to get the math correct on the circles and the arms of the cross....this kind of cross just can't be done freehand.
